Delia Iglauer O’Hara, JD, RN-C, FNP, helped to draft and then lobby to pass
the Nurse Practice Act for the District of Columbia which defined NP, nurse
midwives, and nurse anesthetists as advance practice nurses with expanded
practice authority. Moreover, following passage of the Nurse Practice Act, Ms.
O’Hara drafted rules and regulations for NP practice, which were adopted by the
District of Columbia. Ms. O’Hara has also worked on legal issues such as
changing the Pharmacy Act to allow NPs to prescribe Schedule II-V controlled
Drugs and obtain State DEA numbers. She served many years on the Board of the
Academy, as well as the Board of Nursing in the District of Columbia, and was
instrumental in the development of the Academy’s Foundation.
