Shelley Yerger Hawkins PhD, FNP-BC, GNP, FAANP

Shelley Yerger Hawkins, PhD, FNP-BC, GNP, FAANP is a retired Professor of Nursing whose career extended across 35+ years.  Her most recent position extended from 2022-2023 as a tenured Professor and Director of Nursing at Bradley University.  This position was preceded as a tenured Professor and Associate Dean-Dallas Center at Texas Woman's University College of Nursing from 2016 through 2019.  She served as Visiting Professor at the University of Connecticut School of Nursing during Spring 2019 following her appointment as Professor and Executive Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center from 2016-2018  Prior to joining the UTHSC faculty, she was Program Director of the DNP and MSN NP Programs at the University of San Diego Hahn School of Nursing & Health Science. From 2011-2012, Dr. Hawkins served as Senior Director of Clinical Services for All About Advanced Health/Celgene Corporation, a telehealth-based organization in Los Angeles related to her research and clinical practice. Prior to her employment with AAAH, Dr. Hawkins was an Associate Professor in the Yale School of Nursing following a 2-year post-doctoral fellowship focused on prevention and management of chronic illnesses at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing. Dr. Hawkins' research is focused on the feasibility of various telemedicine devices to deliver behavior and clinical interventions for older adults with various chronic illnesses. She has multiple publications and presentations related to telehealth in nursing research, practice, and education.  Dr. Hawkins received her BSN, MSN, and PhD at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Additionally, she completed a post-master's certificate as a FNP at the University of Virginia and a post-master's certificate as a GNP at the University of Texas Medical Branch. Prior to her post-doctoral fellowship, Dr. Hawkins held faculty positions at University of Alabama at Birmingham, University of Virginia, and Auburn University. Dr. Hawkins has extensive faculty and administrative experience in post-master's and post-baccalaureate DNP, master's, and baccalaureate programs in nursing with specialization in curriculum development in advanced practice nursing. She has presented and published on various topics related to advanced practice nursing education. Dr. Hawkins maintained a part-time practice as a FNP/GNP for nearly 20 years in primary care rural settings and telehealth.  Dr. Hawkins was selected for the inaugural Executive Leadership Institute at UTHSC in 2018 and was elected as President of the CCEN, SREB in 2018.
