Alison Joy Mitchell MSN ACNP-BC FAANP

Alison Mitchell provides cardiac care at Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital. Alison has served as President of the Houston Area Nurse Practitioners twice, growing the organization to a membership of 600 with strategic planning and mentoring board members. As President of Texas Nurse Practitioners 2006-2008, she committed $100,000 to hire two lobbyist firms to remove NP practice barriers and successfully fundraising and obtaining corporate sponsorships. Ms. Mitchell has educated NPs about federal and state policy for over a decade and spearheaded a Senate Bill on Full Practice Authority in 2004. She served as Treasurer and Director of State Affiliates for the American College of Nurse Practitioners 2006-2009 and dared to suggest combining the American Academy with the American College together with Penny Kay Jensen in 2012. The American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) was born January 2013 with CEO David Herbert at the helm, previously CEO for American College of Nurse Practitioners. Ms. Mitchell served as the first AANP Public Policy Chair over federal and state policy committees and served on the Health Policy Conference committee. Alison was honored with Texas Nurse Practitioner of the Year Award 2014 and the AANP Advocate Award for State of Texas in 2014.Alison served as the AANP Texas representative and worked with the Regional Director and Executive Board to install two Texas State Representatives in 2015. Alison was inducted as an AANP fellow in 2015. Ms. Mitchell is adjunct clinical faculty at Texas Women's University-Houston for AGACNP students since 2015 and has served as a preceptor many AGACNP students. Alison remains active with Texas Nurse Practitioners as a legislative ambassador to her House Representative and is serving on the AANP Fellow Selection Committee since 2019.
